Carter Severs - The inspiration for Carter Kits
In late-2019, Justin Severs texted friends Hausbeck and Keller. He mentioned there was a need to help special needs children in times of trauma and chaos at emergency scenes. Carter Kits was born with an initial donation of 10 kits to local Saginaw County Departments. With news coverage that spread nationally, the three continued efforts to spread their mission. They teamed up with Keller's family friend, Dr. Ellen Preen, who is a clinical neuropsychologist in Connecticut and also has a daughter on the autism spectrum. Her expertise helped craft the sensory bags to what they are today.
Dr. Ellen Preen used her clinical expertise to help craft the items in bags and keep them affordable for municipalities hoping to incorporate Carter Kits to their departments. Inside, you will find a weighted blanket, noise-cancelling headphones, a set of fidget toys, sunglasses and a non-verbal cue card.
